Sinupret – Best of the Natural Sinus Infection Remedies

Sinusitis, also known as a sinus infection, plagues millions of people in America every year, especially during cold and flu season. This occurs when sinus openings become blocked, and mucus cannot drain, causing germs and bacteria to breed, which leads to an infection.

Many doctors turn to antibiotics to treat sinus infections, but they have many negative side effects that should make one think twice about taking them. A recent article in the NY Times claimed that doctors prescribe antibiotics for infections, such as sinusitis, that “may resolve on their own or can be treated with less potent drugs or nondrug remedies — or are caused by viruses, which are not susceptible to antibiotics.”

Fluoroquinolones, better known as Cipro (ciprofloxacin), Levaquin (levofloxacin) and Avelox (moxifloxacin), are the antibiotics most often prescribed by doctors for these infections. “The Journal of the American Medical Association showing that the risk of suffering a potentially blinding retinal detachment was nearly fivefold higher among current users of fluoroquinolones, compared with nonusers. In another study submitted for publication, he documented a significantly increased risk of acute kidney failure among users of these drugs,” states the NY Times article. “In addition to occasional unwanted effects on the musculoskeletal, visual and renal systems, the drugs in rare cases can seriously injure the central nervous system (causing “brain fog,” depression, hallucinations and psychotic reactions), the heart, liver, skin (painful, disfiguring rashes and phototoxicity), the gastrointestinal system (nausea and diarrhea), hearing and blood sugar metabolism.”

Furthermore, each dose taken makes the bacteria become more resistant to the antibiotics, and the next time you’ll get an infection, you will have to take a higher dose, or another form of the drug, altogether.

One of the best natural sinus infection remedies found in my research for treating sinus infections is Sinupret. The makers state that this herbal combination is “used to treat sinusitis or acute and chronic bronchitis. Sinupret contains extracts of five herbs: elder (Sambucus nigra, Caprifo- liaceae) flowers, primrose (Primula veris, Primulaceae) flowers with calyx, common sorrel (Rumex acetosa, Polygonaceae) herb, European vervain (Verbena officinalis, Verbenaceae) herb, and gentian (Genti- ana lutea, Gentianaceae) root. Sinupret has been sold in the German and European market for more than 70 years.” These natural pills are widely used in Europe to treat sinusitis, and have proven to be effective in many studies.

Natural Health states that Sinupret is “‘the best clinically tested herbal formula for sinusitis in the world,’ says Mark Blumenthal, executive director of the American Botanical Council. ‘It’s a proven antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and mucus-thinning blend.’”

I have used Sinupret, and have avoided taking any antibiotics for my last two sinus infections. Taking one pill three times a day will usually relieve symptoms within a week.

You can purchase Sinupret at Amazon for $11.99 or other health food sites or stores.
