It is also used for preventing the transmission of HIV from mothers to children,” reports WebMD. “Other uses for lauric acid include treatment of bronchitis, gonorrhea, yeast infections, chlamydia, intestinal infections caused by a parasite called Giardia lamblia, and ringworm.”

2. Coconut Oil Decreases Bad Cholesterol – While coconut oil does have a lot of saturated fat, lauric acid actually raises the good cholesterol (HDL) to improve the overall ratio of good to bad cholesterol in the blood.

3. Coconut Oil Helps to Lose Weight – The medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) that coconut oil has have been shown to help individuals lose weight. That’s because these healthy fats burn more energy that other fats.

“LCTs are large molecules, so they are difficult for your body to break down and are predominantly stored as fat,” explains Dr. Mercola. “But MCTs, being smaller, are easily digested and immediately burned by your liver for energy — like carbohydrates, but without the insulin spike. Dr. Oz advises that coconut oil should be massaged into the skin as a lotion for anyone, young or old. He even advises that parents use it on newborn skin. I have actually used coconut oil on my son’s eczema, and even to treat his diaper rashes, and it has worked on both accounts. The best part is that if you use organic coconut oil, you are not going to get any perfumes or other toxins present in many lotions.
